Our Story

Born from a health scare, built on a mission to make cookware that's both safe and beautiful

The wake-up call

In his New York apartment, Caraway founder Jordan Nathan accidentally overheated a Teflon pan. What happened next changed everything.

The pan released toxic fumes that made him seriously ill. After calling poison control and recovering from what doctors call "Teflon flu" (polymer fume fever), Jordan had a realization: if something this dangerous was in millions of kitchens, something needed to change.

He started researching cookware and discovered the extent of toxic chemicals used in traditional non-stick pans—PFAS, PTFE, PFOA, and heavy metals like lead and cadmium. These "forever chemicals" don't just contaminate your food; they persist in the environment and our bodies for decades.

The missing piece

As Jordan searched for safer alternatives, he hit a wall. The few non-toxic options on the market were either ugly, poorly designed, or came with terrible storage solutions that cluttered cabinets.

He realized there was a massive gap in the market: Why couldn't cookware be both safe and beautiful? Why did choosing health mean sacrificing style?

That question became the foundation of Caraway. In 2019, Jordan set out to create the cookware brand he wished existed—one that treated pans as home decor, not just kitchen tools.

How we make it

Every Caraway product is thoughtfully designed in New York and responsibly manufactured with the highest standards for quality and ethics.

Ceramic Non-Stick Coating

Our signature sol-gel ceramic coating is mineral-based and derived from silica (sand). Unlike traditional Teflon, it contains zero PFAS or PTFE chemicals.

The ceramic coating provides excellent non-stick performance without releasing toxic fumes, even when overheated—the very problem that inspired our founder to create Caraway.

Aluminum Core & Steel Handles

Our cookware features an aluminum core for even heat distribution, with a stainless steel base plate that makes it compatible with all stovetops including induction.

Stainless steel handles stay cool on the stovetop and are oven-safe up to 550°F (288°C), giving you versatility from stovetop to oven.

Ethical Manufacturing

We partner with factories certified by BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative) and SMETA (Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit).

These certifications ensure fair wages, safe working conditions, and zero forced labor. We believe great products shouldn't come at the cost of human dignity.

Sustainable Packaging

All our packaging uses recycled cardboard and contains zero single-use plastics. Even our protective materials are designed to be recyclable.

Our ceramic coating manufacturing process releases up to 60% less CO2 compared to traditional non-stick coatings, reducing our environmental footprint.
